Lanise is called to the Barreau du Quebec and the Nunavut Law Society. She started practicing law in Montreal and later moved to Italy before settling in Ottawa, Ontario.
Since 2003, Lanise has worked primarily with Indigenous communities, organizations and individuals, advising on a broad range of issues including land rights and use, employment law, economic development, First Nations governance, treaty and Aboriginal rights, resource development, financial administration and hunting and fishing rights. She has also represented First Nations before tribunals and courts.
Lanise also worked with the Government of Canada providing litigation support and expertise in complex and multi-party litigation involving Indigenous parties. She also worked as a lawyer providing services in government procurement which has given her particular insight into the machinery of government and the rules around government procurement.
In addition to working with Indigenous clients, Lanise provides services to individuals and employers in Employment Law. She has successfully represented clients before tribunals and courts to ensure that their rights are recognized.
Lanise is passionate about law and its power to change lives. She is committed to human rights and equality and believes in access to justice. Lanise's clients recognize and appreciate her passion for them and her respect of their culture, ways and needs.
Lanise isn't only passionate about law, she is also passionate about community. Since coming to Ottawa, Lanise has volunteered countless hours to various organizations. She takes time to participate at events supporting community organizations. Each year, Lanise travels across Canada to support the Alpine Canada Alpin Ski Cross World Cup as well as North America Cup events as an official and as a Race Administrator. She also lends her expertise to clubs hosting lower level races. Lanise is also on the board of Volunteer Ottawa, a director of the Ottawa Chapter and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and the chair of the Ottawa Chapter of the Black Female Lawyers Network
